how expensive is thyroid medicine for my dog?
I got a message from my vet today saying my dogs thyroid panel was back and her numbers were low so I need to come in and talk to them so she can be put on meds. they were closed when I got the call so can anyone tell how pricey this is going to be. I have heard that this will be a lifelong drug prescription so I am just curious. has anyone had a dog on thyroid meds and how did it work for them. Any side effects?I have VPI pet insurance but I doubt that they will pay for her meds. any info about this condition or treatment will be appreciated. thanks!!!!!!!
I willdefinately get them for her no matter the cost because she my baby, but I forgot to ask has anyone seen a major reduction in weight because my girl is bordering on major obesity and I measure her food everyday and that is why we had the panel done to begin with. I would like to know how quickly she will begin to lose weight?
My cat needs encouragement to eat?
I adopted my 12 year old persian cat Remington last year and his eating routine is exhausting. We feed him watered down wet food because that is easiest for him to eat, but he eats SO SLOW. I have 2 other cats and if I don’t supervise his eating, the other 2 cats will finish their food and then eat his too. (He gets along with the other cats)
To keep the other cats away from him, we often feed Remington in the bathroom with the door closed, but every 2 minutes, he cries and meows to get out. When I go back into the bathroom, I stir his food and pet him and say good boy, and he starts purring and eating voraciously. If I sit with him and pet him, he continues to eat. The minute I leave, he stops eating and whines to get out of the bathroom. Sometimes I’ll take a shower while he’s eating, and he’ll stop eating and whine to get out until the minute I turn the water off and get out of the shower, then once he sees me and I pretend to "stir" his food, he’ll start eating again. It’s the weirdest thing.
It is a slow process, and his appetite seems to be normal, so it’s not that he’s full. We’ve taken him to the vet for senior blood panels and all that and he is in great health. He seems to need our constant encouragement and presence to eat, and there’s something about pretending to "stir" the food that makes him start eating again. The person who owned him before us kept him locked in the basement, but it seems crazy to think that would have a lot to do with this. Any ideas???
I love him, but this is so frustrating!
My cat is pooping on the carpet?
He is 7 years old. He was just at the vet 2 weeks ago and had an exam. He’s fine. But he’s a mostly outdoor cat. Recently we’ve caught him pooping in the grass and now we find poop in the same spot by the door on the carpet! I do have another cat that we thought was the culprit bc she’s fairly new but we’ve concluded it has to be him wanting to go outside and since he can’t he just decides to go right there. Mostly we find it in the morning when we wake up. What do I do?? He’s peed on the carpet too and we’ve done EVERYTHING to get the smell out. Vinegar and water, baking soda, special pet cleaner, steamed cleaned the carpets 3x and the smell still remains! Are only option is to rip up the carpets but money is really tight to just fork out on new carpets that he may continue to use as his personal literbox! We have two brand new large liter boxes, I clean them all the time, I just don’t know what else to do!! I am at my wits end! Please SERIOUS advice no childish comments!
Sorry, he is fixed and has been for a long time!
Doggie Eating Doggie Do…?
my 12 month old boarder collie is a big poo-eater. we have had her for 3 months. she was an outside dog hence not toilet trained. she has learned to do number ones outside on command, but no #2’s!
i train by positive reinforcement. anytime she "goes" outside, praise&treat. i take her out regulary, and have the door open. she is still going inside.
we cut her down to 1 meal a day to help her get through the night as this worked with our other dogs. we blocked off the area she was toileting in. we used pet repellent spray. now she is eating her poo. she is fed a high fibre diet, which keep dogs feeling "full". i have other dogs on the same food without this problem, so don’t think its a question of nutrition.
i am trying to pick the poo up as soon as possible, but she is eating it as soon as she "goes". i try to be with her as often as possible but she can do 4 large "parcels" in a night! shes is wormed, dosed, healthy, active..
any ideas?
exercise: she runs with our other dog for about 2 hours a day. also does agility training twice a week.
nutrition: i’m completely happy with the food shes getting. our other dogs eat the same and all have heaps of energy, great coats, bright eyes etc. i’ve been adding vet-perscribed sprinkle (tried a couple of different ones) to her food to make her #2’s bitter tasting etc, but without sucess! also tried pineapple, spinach and pumpkin.
crate training: she likes her crate, and sleeps in their voluntarily, but still does #2’s in there. have reduced size so she is only just able to turn around also.
Dogged by pain — stem cell therapy for dogs
Visit: tinyurl.com for more pet stories — A new technique for fighting the crippling effects of severe hip dysplasia is catching the attention of many large breed dog owners. Anne Marie Ogle of Napanoch, the owner of Dasha, a 9 year-old German Shepherd, hopes stem cell therapy will improve her pet’s quality of life. Two vets from Rondout Valley Veterinary Associates in Kerhonkson studied up on the process offered by a California-based company called Vet-Stem.
